Indira Montoya works with the almost irrecoverable: landscapes, bodies, histories. She builds speculative archives about the dissolution of the world — an expanded practice that encompasses performance, installation, drawing, writing, experimental music, textile, sculpture, and worlds built with game engines, a medium that defines much of her most recent work.
Her work is organized in series that operate as biomes: ecologies of pieces that affect each other and other future or past series.
The non-human — the wilderness, animals, geological time — is the territory her work reaches in poetic solidarity.
A descendant of Syrian immigrants who arrived in Argentina in the early twentieth century, she carries with her a condition of permanent translation: the interpretation of distant, often illegible signs.
Co-founder of hipermedula.org — an Ibero-American editorial and cultural platform active since 2010 that operates as a living archive of the region's visual and sound arts scene. One of the cultural communication projects with the greatest continuity and reach in Ibero-America.
Originally trained in music, her practice was shaped by the clinics of Remo Bianchedi, Aníbal Buede, Soledad Sánchez Goldar, Gabriela Halac, Lucas di Pascuale and Guillermo Gómez Peña, among others.
She is a member of the contemporary music ensemble SUONO MOBILE argentina
Since 2017, she has been part of the research and scenic creation project"Escrituras performáticas: cuerpo y acción en efimerodramas"alongside Soledad Sánchez Goldar, Rodolfo Ossés, Luciana Sastre and Sebastián Huber.
Lives and works in Córdoba, Argentina, with periodic presence in other cities.
